Keystroke counter
Start typing. This page counts every key you press while it’s open, with your keys per minute and an hour-by-hour bar. Nothing you type is kept or sent.
- 0typing
- 0editing
- 0navigation
- 0modifier
* Words per minute uses the standard five characters per word. The counter sees keys pressed in this tab only. It stores nothing: no cookie, no local storage, no request. Reload and it’s zero.
How it works
A key goes down. The number goes up. The key is forgotten.
- 01
Press
Your browser tells this page a key went down, as long as the page is open and in front.
- 02
Sort
It goes into one of four groups: typing, editing, navigation or a modifier.
- 03
Count
One is added for this hour. Which key it was is dropped straight away.
This page or the app
Same idea. The app just never stops counting.

Questions
About counting keys.
What is a keystroke counter?
A tool that counts how many keys you press. It tells you how much you type, not what you type.
Does this page record what I type?
No. Each key is sorted into a group and dropped at once. Nothing is saved or sent, and a reload starts again from zero.
How many keystrokes a day is normal?
It depends on the work. On TypeCount’s developer’s PC it was about 12,260 a day over 13 days in September and October 2026, and 23,549 on the busiest day.
Keys per minute or words per minute?
Keys per minute counts every press, including Backspace and the arrows. Words per minute counts five characters as a word.
Can it count outside this tab?
No web page can. To count everywhere on Windows, TypeCount runs on your PC and counts keys in every app, never which keys.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap “Tap to type” to open your keyboard; each key is counted and the box empties at once.
